Shared values matter more than shared interests. Do you both want kids? Do you have similar financial goals? Are your political views compatible? These conversations are boring but necessary.

Before getting serious, discuss: family, finances, career goals, where you want to live, religion if it matters to you. Not romantic, but practical.
